Bedfont Sports hope to land £100,000 ‘supergrant’ for 3G pitch

Non-League Bedfont Sports are hoping to secure £100,000 to help improve club facilities.

Having been successful in the previous round of the Budweiser Club Futures programme, winning £50,000, they are now hoping to gain enough votes to win the ‘supergrant’ and its £100,000 prize money.

Terry Reader, who co-owns the club with his father, wants to replace Bedfont’s current pitch with a 3G surface if they are named winners.

He said: “The £50,000 we previously won has been matched by the Football Foundation and we are looking to add a new stand and an internal pitch barrier fencing at our new ground.

“If we were successful in the supergrant catergory, we want to replace our current pitch at Hatton Road for a new 3G one.

“At the minute, the weather is playing havoc with our fixtures and if we had the funds for the switch to 3G, it would be really beneficial for the club.

“England played on 3G pitch a few years ago and it’s acceptable at the minute in the Scottish Premiership so I think it will grow and grow. “

The Combined Counties Premier side currently have two teams running on a Saturday, a midweek Under-18 team and a host of youth teams after merging with Bedfont Eagles.

And Reader believes the planned improvements can help Bedfont Sports become a big part of the local community.

“The incentive from Budweiser is great, it really helps you plan for the future. With some of our plans, hopefully 20 years down the line, the community will still be seeing the benefit of it,” he said.

“Our club has a rich history of producing good young players. If we can get the new pitch in then we can look to push players on and get them in the first team.

“It would help us develop the young players and instil a playing style that is played from every age group unique to our club.

“We just need as many votes as we can. We are representing London, Middlesex and Surrey so we are looking to get as much backing as we can.”

Details of how to vote can be found at Bedfont Sports’ official website.
