Battle the boulders as Blokfest comes to Westway Sports Centre

Whether it’s climbing for fun with friends, enjoying the thrill of competing, attempting fun challenges for prizes galore or simply enjoying some booming tunes in a great atmosphere, Blokfest at Westway Sports Centre on 16 November will be an unmissable event in the climbing calendar.

Blokfest is five giant bouldering festivals organised by  seven-times British climbing champion Gaz Parry and Mike Langley, the national route-setter for the British Mountaineering Council.

Hosted by world-class bouldering centres in the south of England – which include Westway – Blokfest captures all that’s exciting, social and challenging about indoor bouldering.W

The bouldering extravaganza will have something for everyone, from complete novices to seasoned veterans.

If you’re more of a spectator, Blockfest is the perfect place to sit back and listen to the music, try your luck at the prizes on offer throughout the day and marvel at the competitors in the Showcase finals.

When Blokfest launched last year, a staggering 650 climbing fans descended on premier climbing centres to take part – and this year’s event is set to be even bigger and better.

Matt Tomlinson, head of climbing at Westway Sports Centre said: “Bouldering is a great activity for everyone, regardless of ability.

“It’s a fun way to stay active as well as being a perfect way to meet new people.

“We’re really excited about Blokfest making its debut at Westway Climbing Centre and we’re expecting it to bring a real buzz about bouldering and climbing to the centre, especially for people who may not have come across it before. ”

Blokfest is free to watch and for competitors who want to test their skills on the bouldering walls, it costs only £10 for under 18s and £15 for over 18s.

After visiting Westway Climbing Centre on 16 November, Blokfest moves on to Reading Climbing Centre on 1 December, The Depot in Nottingham on 19 January and finishes at The Castle Climbing Centre in north London on 15 February.
