Barton hails Everton and apologises to QPR fans after FA Cup thrashing

Joey Barton apologised to QPR fans on Twitter and praised Everton after the FA Cup third-round defeat.

Barton, a boyhood Everton fan, captained the Rangers team at Goodison Park, where they were beaten 4-0 in one-sided tie.

He later tweeted: “Beaten by a superior team today. Lots of lessons to be learned by all. As a fan, great to see an Everton side play such good football.

“Today showed what we’ve known all season. We need to be better all over. Sorry to all QPR fans who travelled up. That wasn’t good enough.

“No disrespect to any Championship teams mate but we won’t play many teams as good as that every week. #thankgod.”

QPR chief executive Philip Beard tweeted: “Disappointing to lose today but now we can put 100% of our focus on Priority Number 1.”

  • hi Joey. I was one of the Blues in the Upper Gwladys who gave you a round of applause when you came to take the corner. Despite what some tits say, we always appreciate a boyhood Blue at Goodison. Hope you get promotion.

  • Joey - it hasn't been good enough all season. I watch a lot of EPL on cable and we are pedestrian in comparison. Our work rate is 60% what it should be. We don't close down fast enough, especially high up on the pitch and we don't run back to win the ball. We look like a bunch of crocks and are more likely to get a hamstring injury than score a goal.
If we go up in our present state, we must get used to 0-4.
