Arsenal v QPR player ratings

QPR remain bottom of the table and without a Premier League win this season following their 1-0 loss against Arsenal. Here’s how we rated Rangers’ players in their defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Julio Cesar: 8
Pulled off a number of eye-catching saves and was unlucky for Arsenal’s goal.

Jose Bosingwa: 6
Plodded along, doing nothing particularly well or badly.

Stephane Mbia: 5
Gets a low mark simply because his stupid outburst was so costly. Until his dismissal, he was having his best game for QPR so far and seems to be growing in stature with every match. A daft red card, the like of which is all too familiar for Rangers and will continue to be as long as Mark Hughes, like Neil Warnock before him, makes excuses for players who get themselves sent off.

Ryan Nelsen: 8
Money can’t buy spirit and professionalism. And despite all their money and big-name signings, Rangers are hugely reliant on this veteran defender who does well to get through games. Held the defence together.

Armand Traore: 7
Did well before his now customary second-half substitution.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: 5
Again failed to impress going forward after being preferred to Jamie Mackie in place of Ji-sung Park. Some may have questioned whether the captain’s absence would be a bad thing given his recent form, but this was exactly the kind of away game the ‘legs’ of Park and Samba Diakite are crucial in. He was missed.

Esteban Granero: 6
Rightly playing ahead of Alejandro Faurlin since Diakite’s return. But while he’s more defensively reliable than Faurlin, in the last couple of games he hasn’t shown the Argentine’s undeniable ability to create an opening when given space. Rangers need Granero to show that side of his game. Missed a good chance to score in the second half.

Samba Diakite: 7
A game tailor-made for the midfielder, who didn’t disappoint. Can make a big difference away from home with his ability to eat up ground against teams who move the ball around quickly.

Adel Taarabt: 6
Another quiet game going forward but was sensible without the ball and always tried to create when the chance arose.

Junior Hoilett: 6
Troubled Arsenal at times but overall doesn’t ask enough questions of defenders in an off-the-front role designed to give them problems. A swap with Taarabt could make both players more effective.

Bobby Zamora: 6
Lacks dynamism but holds the ball up well. In a team that also lacks dynamism, it doesn’t always count for much though.
