Zappacosta completes Roma loan move after signing new Chelsea deal

Davide Zappacosta has signed a new contract with Chelsea and completed a loan move to Serie A side Roma until the end of January.

The 27-year-old right-back, who joined from Torino two years ago, has extended his stay with the Blues until June 2022.

Italy international Zappacosta had been expected to return to his homeland, having been restricted to just 13 league starts for Chelsea since his move to Stamford Bridge.

Manager Frank Lampard is keen to involve Reece James when the young full-back is available following an ankle problem.

That leaves Zappacosta third in line behind James and Cesar Azpilicueta.
