Antonio Conte suggested Willian had played himself into contention to start against Barcelona in the Champions League next week by playing a starring role in Chelsea’s FA Cup victory over Hull.

Willian scored twice, Olivier Giroud got his first goal for the club and Pedro also netted as Conte’s side won 4-0 to take their place in the quarter-finals.

And Blues boss Conte declared: “For sure his performance was impressive. When he plays in this way it’s a great joy.

“Before an important game against Barcelona, tonight I go home with many doubts in my mind which is the best starting 11 to start the game.

“We must take the time to make the best decision about who will start the game.”

The Italian added:  “To play against Barcelona is a great challenge. This type of game must give us great enthusiasm and we must be excited.

“I consider Barcelona one of the best teams in the world. On one side you must be sad to play them but on the other hand you must be excited and you must try to compete with them at this level.

“It won’t be easy but we must have enthusiasm and the right confidence and we’ll see what happens.”

Chelsea had no problem seeing off Championship side Hull, who were totally outclassed.

“We must be pleased. We are in the next round,” Conte said.

“The first half was impressive because we scored four goals. In the second half we tried to manage the game and in England that is very difficult. To keep the clean sheet is very important.”
