Villas-Boas gives backing to Torres

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has denied reports he is close to losing patience with Fernando Torres.

Striker Torres has struggled for form since his £50m move to Stamford Bridge in January and has not scored in the Premier League since September.

He was ineffective again in the Carling Cup defeat against his former club Liverpool this week, but his manager insists suggestions the Spaniard is on borrowed time are wide of the mark.

“It’s not true. I don’t run out of patience with my players,” Villas-Boas said.

Torres has netted five goals in all competitions for the Blues, with four of them coming this season.
