Van Ginkel set for Stoke in Begovic deal

Chelsea are set to compete the £8m signing of Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in a deal that will see Marco van Ginkel join the Potters on a season-long loan.

The Blues have been looking for a keeper to replace Petr Cech as Thibaut Courtois’ stand-in following Cech’s recent move to Arsenal.

A deal for Begovic, 28, has been agreed in principle but has been on hold until Stoke boss Mark Hughes decides which Chelsea player he takes on loan.

Hughes was less keen on a number of other possible options but wants Netherlands international Van Ginkel, who was sidelined by a long-term knee injury soon after his move to Stamford Bridge from Vitesse Arnhem 2013.

The midfielder, 22, spent last season on loan at AC Milan and has also attracted interest from Sunderland this summer.
