Silva not ready to return for Chelsea

Thiago Silva will not return for Chelsea in their game at Liverpool on Thursday.

The veteran defender, who has been out for a month with a thigh problem, resumed training this week.

That raised hopes that he might return to the squad for the trip to Anfield.

But boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Silva did not complete the whole session and is not ready to play yet.

Tuchel explained: “Thiago had his first training with the team but did not finish the last exercise.

“He wasn’t in any pain or anything. It was just to be aware of taking no risk.

“He is not 100% so he will not join us quite yet.”

Tuchel also revealed that Tammy Abraham is again nursing an ankle problem.

The striker has previously been affected by ankle trouble.

“Tammy had some problems yesterday with the ankle again so let’s see how that works out,” Tuchel said.

It comes after Abraham was dropped from the matchday squad for Sunday’s draw with Manchester United – a decision Tuchel later confirmed was purely a selection choice and not linked to any injury.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Tuchel said there was “no issue at all” with Callum Hudson-Odoi’s fitness despite the winger being seen holding an ice pack to his leg after being substituted at half-time against United.
