Transfer gossip: Chilwell move could be in doubt, Sun say

Stories in Monday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…

Chelsea’s expected move for Ben Chilwell could be called off because of a heel injury, The Sun say.

The Leicester and England left-back is due to see a specialist about the problem, which kept him out of the final five matches of last season.

Chilwell has been widely tipped to move to Stamford Bridge this summer and it appears a deal between the two clubs is close.

But The Sun suggest Chelsea might have second thoughts if Chilwell is ruled out of the start of the new campaign.

The newspaper quotes ‘a source’ as saying: “If Ben gets news he is going to be out for another six weeks, not three, then Chelsea could well take a totally different view on this whole matter.

“If he is out for another six weeks, then that’s three weeks into the new season having not had any pre-season training whatsoever.

“Chelsea are talking all the time about where best money should be spent this summer and there are several people with clout at this club.

“Much depends on who makes the final say on some of the transfers.”

The Sun also say attempts to offload Emerson Palmieri have “hit a sticky patch” amid speculation over Antonio Conte’s future.

Emerson is expected to make way for a new left-back at Chelsea this summer and has been linked with a return to Italy.

Inter Milan’s former Chelsea boss Conte is said to be keen to sign him – but reports suggest Conte could be sacked by the Serie A club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are confident they will complete a deal to sign winger Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in the next few days, the Daily Express say.
