Tottenham v Chelsea line-ups: Kovacic back after injury but Loftus-Cheek misses out; Spurs midfielder returns

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic starts in the London derby against Tottenham having recovered from an ankle injury.

Kovacic missed Croatia’s defeat by England on Sunday because of the problem but is deemed fit enough to start so Ross Barkley is only a substitute.

Willian is preferred to Pedro but there is no place in the matchday squad for Barkley’s fellow England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Tottenham welcome back midfielder Christian Eriksen after an abdominal injury.

Defender Jan Vertonghen is named on the bench following a hamstring injury but Davinson Sanchez is ruled out with a similar problem.

Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele are all ruled out.

Tottenham: Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Foyth, Davies; Dier, Sissiko; Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane.

Chelsea: Arrizabalega; Azpilicueta, Luiz, Rudiger, Alonso; Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic; Willian, Hazard, Morata.
