Torres scores as Chelsea win Asia Trophy

Aston Villa 0 Chelsea 2

Chelsea won the Asia Trophy as Fernando Torres’ wait for a goal finally ended.

Torres, on as a second-half substitute, diverted Florent Malouda’s mis-hit shot into the net in what the Spaniard will hope marks a turning point in his fortunes.

Chelsea had earlier taken the lead after only 33 seconds through youngster Josh McEachran, who pounced on the loose ball after keeper Shay Given had superbly thwarted first Nicolas Anelka and then Malouda.

McEachran was recently given a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, and he showed why by producing a hugely promising performance to enhance his growing reputation.

John Terry had a header cleared off the line by Villa midfielder Fabian Delph as Chelsea continued to dominate, and Blues forward Daniel Sturridge fired over from 10 yards out.

Given was by far the busier keeper and saved with his feet to deny Torres his second goal, before Darren Bent missed a great chance to equalise – meaning Chelsea are still yet to concede a goal in this pre-season campaign.
