Terry’s European ban is reduced

John Terry will be able to play in Chelsea’s first Champions League group game after the club succeeded with an appeal against the length of his European ban.

The Blues skipper, whose red card against Barcelona meant he missed May’s Champions League final, will sit out the Super Cup match against Atletico Madrid on 31 August but the third game of his suspension has been deferred for a probationary period of three years.

A Uefa statement confirmed: “John Terry has had his three-match suspension reduced on appeal.

“Although the central defender is still suspended for three Uefa club competition matches, the third game of the ban has now been deferred for a probationary period of three years.”
