Terry could return to action this week

John Terry is set to make his long-awaited return to action following a knee injury.

The Chelsea skipper, who has been out for nearly two months, is hoping to feature in an Under-21 match against Fulham at the Blues’ Cobham training ground on Thursday.

Terry has finally resumed full training and will be considered for first-team selection if he comes through this week’s game unscathed.

Interim manager Rafael Benitez explained: “The good news is that JT is now training.

“We are considering him playing some minutes on Thursday for the Under-21 team. We’ll see how he feels on Thursday.

“The positive thing is that he is training, because before he was just doing the warm-up. Now he can train, so we are getting closer.”

And Benitez has indicated that Terry could even be in the squad for this weekend’s Premier League game against Stoke.

“We will see how he feels. If he can play and then train the day after, at least we can consider him as an option,” said the Spaniard.
