Schwarzer on verge of Leicester switch

Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer is set for a move to Leicester City.

The 42-year-old is close to agreeing a deal with the Premier League’s basement club after failing to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea this season.

Schwarzer joined the Blues from Fulham in the summer of 2013 and was pressed into first-team action in the final few weeks of last season, after Petr Cech injured his shoulder in the Champions League semi-final with Atletico Madrid.

However, since Cech’s return to fitness and the emergence of Thibaut Courtois as undisputed number one, Schwarzer has slipped down to third choice at Stamford Bridge and is now seeking more regular football.

In all, Australian Schwarzer played 12 games for Chelsea, keeping clean sheets against Liverpool and Norwich in the Premier League, Stoke and Derby in the FA Cup and Swindon and Arsenal in the League Cup.

A veteran of two World Cups, he spent five years at Fulham, helping them to the final of the Europa League in 2010.

He also played in the Uefa Cup final with Middlesbrough, having originally arrived in England in 1996 to play for Bradford City.
