Sarri: Chelsea need to improve in midfield

Chelsea: Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea need more quality in central midfield areas, according to new boss Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues struggled to find the perfect foil for player of the season N’Golo Kante last term, with Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater all being used.

England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek may stay as part of the squad having been on loan with Crystal Palace last season, while Ross Barkley could be used in a more central role after an injury-hit first season.

Brazil-born Italy international Jorginho has already been signed by Sarri, who has hinted at further strengthening in midfield areas.

“I cannot name any names because I don’t know who these people are,” he added.

“I spoke to the football club and I said a pinch of quality is lacking in centre midfield for a certain kind of play. Otherwise they’re at a very high level.”
