Maurizio Sarri praised his players after their unbeaten start to his reign as Chelsea boss continued with a 4-0 thrashing of Burnley at Turf Moor.

The result took Chelsea back up to second in the Premier League – and now with a better goal difference than Liverpool.

Sarri dismissed that as unimportant and was much more interested in the performances of his players, particularly Ross Barkley and Alvaro Morata, who both scored again.

Morata has scored three goals in his past four appearances for the Blues, while Barkley became the first English player to score in three consecutive Premier League matches since Frank Lampard did it for Chelsea in 2013.

“Barkley is doing very well in this period,” Sarri said.

“He improved in the defensive phase, improved very much. He improved his physical condition because the last season for him was really very difficult. He’s a very good player from the technical point of view. Now I think Ross is complete.

“Alvaro played a very good game. Probably he could score more but he scored a good goal. I think the last three, four matches can be a good restart for him.”
