Maurizio Sarri says he has barely spoken to the Chelsea hierarchy about possible signings ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

The transfer window closes on Thursday and Chelsea have been linked with a host of players.

Numerous reports have claimed that new head coach Sarri has identified various transfer targets.

But the Italian has insisted that is not the case.

“I talked with the club about the market but only one time, maybe two times. No more,” he said.

“We spoke about positions, about characteristics, no names. So I don’t know. I think we need something. But maybe only a player.”

Chelsea will face Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield – Sarri’s first match on English soil as Blues boss.

“I think it’s very important to start with a trophy,” Sarri said.

“It’s also important that the performance is a step forward. Clearly for me it’s very important to win something.”
