Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri praised his side following a 2-0 win against Bournemouth and suggested that Marcos Alonso could become the best left-back in the world.

Sarri suggested Alonso’s strength in attack sets him apart from other players, but explained that to be considered the best, he will also have to make improvements defensively.

“In this position at left-back, Alonso has physical qualities at the top level. He’s doing very well in the offensive phase,” Sarri explained.

“But I also think that he can improve in the defensive phase. If he does, I think he can be the best left-back in the world.”

The Spaniard set up Chelsea’s second goal after combining with Eden Hazard, who smashed the ball past former Blues keeper Asmir Begovic following Alonso’s lay-off.

It took Chelsea over 70 minutes to break the deadlock, but their opening goal finally came courtesy of substitute Pedro.

Despite his team struggling to create any clear chances for long periods of the game, Sarri revealed that he always believed they would take all three points.

“I am happy with the result. It was a very difficult game. They defended very well, especially in the first half,” Sarri said.

“But this kind of match usually you can win in the last 20, 25 minutes. [I was always confident] yes.”

After picking up another win, Chelsea maintained their perfect start to the season and keep the pressure on Liverpool, who are currently top of the Premier League heading into the international break.
