Sarri: Chelsea can take inspiration from Tottenham win when they face Leicester

Maurizio Sarri says Chelsea must use the home Premier League victory over Tottenham as inspiration when they face Leicester in their final league game of the season.

The Blues travel to the East Midlands on Sunday knowing a win over the Foxes will ensure they finish third in the table.

But the game comes just four days after the gruelling Europa League penalty shootout victory over Eintracht Frankfurt after extra time.

“For sure it will be very difficult on Sunday,” Sarri said. “But we need to consider that out best match was here at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham three days after 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.”

Chelsea won 4-3 against the German side on penalties to set up a final against Arsenal, but the team looked exhausted in the extra 30 minutes.

“It will be very difficult,” Sarri said. “Not only physically but mentally because it is not easy to recover after a match like that. Physically we can recover but mentally it is hard.”

Sarri, who is chasing his first trophy as a manager, said the group “deserve to win” silverware.

He added: “We went in trouble three months and ago and if you are in trouble in England the level of the opponent is high and it is not easy to overcome difficulties.

“We were able to do it so we deserve to win a trophy.”
