Rubin vulnerable at the back, says Terry

John Terry believes Chelsea can exploit Rubin Kazan’s defensive shortcomings in Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg, the Blues are in a strong position going into the return match in Moscow.

And skipper Terry believes their attacking players are capable of putting the tie beyond Rubin’s reach.

He said: “It’s definitely not over. There’s still some life in the tie yet. Going forward, they [Rubin] are really strong and dangerous.

Fernando Torres scored two in the first leg.

“As good as they are going forward, defensively I think they can be got at and I fancy our chances.”

The game is part of a hectic run-in to the season for Rafael Benitez’s side, who are battling to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

They also face an FA Cup semi-final showdown with Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.

But Terry is convinced the squad is strong enough to compete on all three fronts.

“I definitely think we’ve got the squad to cope with it and the manager’s rotating the squad and giving people opportunities,” he said.

“As players you want to play in every game, but unfortunately that’s not going to be the case.

“There are so many big and important games coming up now – semi-finals, quarter-finals and we really need to push on in the league as well – so, realistically, there will be opportunities for players.

“For the players who are playing each game it has an effect, but the manager is handling it well.

“When there is a window to rest some players he’s doing it the right way and giving players the right opportunity to do so.”
