Rosenior backs Chelsea keeper Jorgensen ahead of Newcastle game

Liam Rosenior has backed Filip Jorgensen to respond positively to the Chelsea goalkeeper’s costly Champions League error.

Rosenior recently dropped Robert Sanchez in favour of Jorgensen, but Chelsea’s shortcomings in the keeper position were evident again against Paris St-Germain.

They face an uphill task in next week’s last-16 second leg at Stamford Bridge, after losing the first leg 5-2.

The Blues were very much in the tie when, at 2-2, Jorgensen giving the ball away led to PSG’s third goal.

It remains to be seen whether the Denmark international is selected for Saturday’s league game against Newcastle.

But the head coach insisted he has no doubt that Jorgensen is mentally ready to play.

“For sure. Everyone makes mistakes, in life and football. It’s how you recover. I have no lack of trust in the two goalkeepers I have,” Rosenior said.

Jamie Gittens is back involved in the squad after a hamstring injury but Estevao is “a little further away” from a return, Rosenior revealed.
