Rosenior admits Chelsea rode their luck in cup win

Liam Rosenior admitted Chelsea rode their luck in their thrilling FA Cup tie at Wrexham.

They were twice behind but came on strong to win 4-2 in extra time, which the Welsh side played with 10 men after George Dobson was sent off in the final few minutes of normal time.

Dobson was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Garnacho. He initially escaped but was shown a red card after a VAR check and referee Peter Bankes had viewed the pitchside monitor.

And with Chelsea 3-2 up in extra time, they were helped by VAR again when Lewis Brunt had an equaliser ruled out for offside.

Both decisions seemed correct, but had they occurred in the previous round, when VAR was not in operation, the result might well have been very different.

After a tough evening for his side, Blues head coach Rosenior said: “We needed that element of luck because Wrexham were so good.

“They were magnificent in their energy and how brave they were in the press. We were pushed by a very good team.”

It was a good night for Garnacho, who put Chelsea ahead in extra time and was involved in many of their best moments.

“He’s in a really good place and it’s good to see him get some form in a really important stage of the season,” Rosenior said.
