Burnley boss Sean Dyche insisted referee Craig Pawson handled the game well in his side’s shock 3-2 win at Chelsea.

Pawson sent off Blues skipper Gary Cahill after 13 minutes and then dismissed Cesc Fabregas late in the game, with home fans voicing their anger at half-time and full-time.

However, Dyche felt the Yorkshire-based official got the major calls right.

“I thought the ref was very good today,” the Clarets manager said.

“He had a really tough game to handle and I thought he handled it well overall.

“The sending off makes a big difference. I haven’t seen it [but] my staff tell me it’s a correct decision.

“We responded very well to it. We didn’t lose our shape, we kept doing the basics well and created enough chances and took them.

“Then in the second half they had to respond, we tried to contain. They scored two, with a couple of maybes, we hit the post right at the death.

“But I think everyone would think we deserved it overall.”
