Newton is back at the Bridge

Eddie Newton has returned to Chelsea to work alongside interim boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Newton, from East Acton, first joined the club at the age of 13 and made over 200 first-team appearances during his time as a player at Stamford Bridge.

Like Di Matteo, he scored in the Blues’ FA Cup triumph against Middlesbrough at Wembley in 1997.

After injury ended his playing career, he was employed in a coaching role at Chelsea and went on to become Di Matteo’s right-hand man at MK Dons and West Brom.

Steve Holland will remain as assistant first-team coach and Christophe Lollichon as goalkeeping coach.

Fitness coach Jose Mario Rocha and opposition scout Daniel Sousa have both left the club in the wake of Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking as manager.
