Charly Musonda scored a last-gasp winner for Chelsea’s development side as they beat Portsmouth 2-1 in dramatic fashion to reach the quarter-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Musonda, recently back from injury, scored both the visitors’ goals at Fratton Park, where he opened the scoring with a slick finish from Kyle Scott’s cross 13 minutes into the second half.

A penalty shoot-out looked certain when Brett Pitman equalised for Pompey in the second minute of stoppage time.

But Musonda scored with a free-kick in the final seconds of the match to take Chelsea through to the last eight.

Chelsea: Bulka, Sterling, Chalobah, Ampadu, Grant, Sammut, Scott, Maddox (Redan 30), Musonda, St-Clair, Hudson-Odoi.
