Mourinho wants Drogba in the next round

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to face Didier Drogba’s Galatasaray in the next round of the Champions League.

The Blues finished top of Group E, with Demba Ba’s early goal securing a 1-0 win against Steaua Bucharest.

Galatasary are one of the teams they could meet in the last 16 and Mourinho says he would like to be drawn against the Turkish club so that former Chelsea striker Drogba can be given a hero’s welcome at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho was given a rousing reception after returning to the club as manager in the summer.

And he explained: “I think Didier deserves to come here.

“I think he deserves a reception here even better than when I came back. He deserves to get the reception I did against Hull City.

“Yes Galatasaray is difficult but I would like Didier to be back here and feel what I felt.”

Already through to the knockout phase and aware that a victory would guarantee they progressed as group winners, potentially meaning a more favourable draw, Chelsea made a strong start against the Romanian side.

In the end, Schalke’s 2-0 win against Basel, who went out, meant the Blues would have topped the group even with a point.

Mourinho said: “It was not a fantastic performance but a comfortable performance and it’s enough.

“We did enough to win without any kind of difficult moment and I think if we score a second goal we jump to another performance.

“At the same time, with Schalke winning 2-0 we know one point will be enough for us and we just have to control the situation.

“We were winning 1-0 and didn’t have to take a risk and do silly things. The Champions League is too important for that.”
