Mourinho: Man City are still favourites

Jose Mourinho continued to insist that Manchester City should be regarded as title favourites after Chelsea went above them and Arsenal to the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal’s 5-1 thrashing at Liverpool and City only managing a goalless draw at Norwich meant Chelsea moved to the summit with their 3-0 win against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge, where Eden Hazard scored a hat-trick.

It extended their unbeaten league run to 10 matches and came five days after their stunning 1-0 victory at City.

Blues boss Mourinho said: “Players individually are in a good moment and the team are getting results and we are top of the league and that is something you can’t hide.

“But I still say the same and I feel the same. I have said it because I feel it. I don’t feel the change.”

Chelsea were largely dominant but were grateful to keeper Petr Cech for producing a key save to deny Moussa Sissoko after the Magpies midfielder had been put through on goal in the first half.

“That save was the difference between 1-1 and then going 2-0 up,” said Mourinho.

“In the first half we had some problems. The wind was against us and Newcastle pressed us in our own half. We were not controlling Sissoko’s runs.

“But we are playing well at the moment even though the first half wasn’t the best example of that.”
