Mourinho is upbeat after Chelsea’s draw

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was unhappy with the result but more than satisfied with his team’s performance against Southampton.

The Blues missed the opportunity to go eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City after being held to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

But they are comfortable six points clear of City with a game in hand.

“There are two perspectives and I have both,” Mourinho said.

“I’m not happy with the result. I’m happy with the six points lead because the two things aren’t connected. I’m not jumping up with happiness and I’m not crying with disappointment.

“The players are the same. They are not happy with the result, they are happy with the six points lead and with their performance, especially in the second half.

“A draw at home against Southampton is not a good result, and more teams are in the race, but in this moment we have six points more.

“We are there [at the top]. If somebody tells me in August that at the end of March we are six points in front and one match in hand, I would sign immediately.”
