Mourinho and Howe disagree over penalty incident

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insisted his side should have been awarded a penalty against Bournemouth and that the visitors’ winning goal should not have stood.

The Blues, who have now lost eight Premier League matches this season and three of their last five league games at home, felt Glenn Murray was offside when he headed home in the 82nd minute.

Earlier, Chelsea appealed in vain for a penalty when the ball struck Simon Francis on the arm as the Cherries defender slid in to challenge Diego Costa.

“Yes it was a penalty and the goal is offside. The referee made a mistake,” Mourinho said after his team’s 1-0 defeat.

But victorious Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe felt justice was done.

Howe said: “Obviously I disagree (with Mourinho). I think Simon’s committed to his slide and not moved his arm to the ball. A penalty would have been incredibly harsh.”
