Chelsea boss Tuchel backs Werner

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has insisted he is not concerned about Timo Werner’s tendency to be caught offside.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Tuchel was asked if he was frustrated by Werner having goals disallowed.

“No frustration so far. We can improve on that and we will improve on that,” Tuchel said.

“He will learn from that – to maybe not take too much risk and maybe take a bit more care about his starting position.

“There’s room for improvement, but it’s one of his strengths to play on the edge and always give defenders something to think about because of his speed.”

Werner struggled in front of goal again against Manchester City but continues to contribute to the team – he set up Chelsea’s late winner.

Tuchel said: “Don’t forget he was the guy again who gave the assist in the last minute, so he was involved again directly (in a goal).

“For me this is the most important thing – he is involved in our chances.”
