Late Arsenal goal means another 2-1 defeat for Chelsea youngsters

Chelsea’s development side suffered a third consecutive 2-1 defeat when they were beaten by Arsenal on Friday evening.

Charlie Wakefield scored the Blues’ goal at Stamford Bridge, where Jake Clarke-Salter again played.

Defender Clarke-Salter (pictured) recently joined Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan but has nevertheless featured for Chelsea’s Under-23s in order to build up his fitness following an injury.

Arsenal took the lead midway through the first half when Reiss Nelson netted after exchanging passes with Chris Willock.

Wakefield was brought on at half-time along with Jacob Maddox and made an impact, troubling Arsenal left-back Marc Bola and bringing saves from keeper Matt Macey with a powerful strike and a header.

And when Macey denied Ike Ugbo midway through the second half after the forward had been put through by Josi Quintero, Wakefield fired in the loose ball for the equaliser.

But Arsenal’s lead was restored eight minutes from the end when Mavididi latched on to a ball over the stop and found the net with a thumping left-footed shot.
