Lampard returns to Chelsea training

Frank Lampard has re
Bturned to training and is set to play in Chelsea’s Premier League opener at Stoke.

Lampard was withdrawn from England’s squad for the friendly against Netherlands because of a throat infection, before the match at Wembley was called off in the wake of the disturbances in London.

The 33-year-old midfielder trained with his Blues team-mates at Cobham on Wednesday and is expected to be passed fit for Sunday’s game against the Potters.

But striker Fernando Torres is a doubt after suffering mild concussion while playing for Spain on Wednesday night.

Torres was taken off after 14 miutes of the friendly against Italy in Bari and will be assessed when he returns to London.

Lampard’s inclusion would be a massive boost for boss Andre Villas-Boas ahead of the Portuguese’s first league game in charge.

Villas-Boas is currently without key midfielder Michael Essien, who will miss the first half of the season with a knee injury.
