More speculation over Lampard’s future as Chelsea boss

There is more speculation about Frank Lampard’s future in Thursday’s newspapers.

The defeat at Leicester was Chelsea’s fifth loss in eight matches and has inevitably triggered more reports that Lampard could lose his job as Blues boss.

The Guardian declare that Lampard “is running out of time to save his job” and that the Leicester result “prompted the board to start identifying possible replacements” for him – although previous reports had suggested they were already looking.

The Guardian again tout former Paris St-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement for Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

The Daily Telegraph say Lampard is fighting to hold onto his position while club owner Roman Abramovich considers how much time to give him to turn things around.

Meanwhile, The Sun declare that Lampard has three games to save his job and that “the axe is looming” if results do not improve.

The Daily Mirror say Chelsea do not want to sack Lampard or make a change mid-season, but do expect him to deliver a top-four finish.

And the Daily Star run a similar story, declaring that the Chelsea hierarchy are in “no rush” to sack Lampard but that securing Champions League football for next season is the “minimum requirement”.

Lampard is under pressure following a poor recent run

Speaking after the Leicester game, Lampard insisted he can handle the pressure he is under and move Chelsea up the table.

“We just have to fight. I’m not the only manager to be put under this sort of pressure,” he said.

“The lucky thing for me is that I’m good at handling pressure. I could sense that these periods would come.

“That’s all I have to concern myself with – how to deal with this and get us out of it.”
