Chelsea boss Lampard hails ‘incredible’ Kante

Boss Frank Lampard says N’Golo Kante will be a vital part of the Chelsea team “for years to come”.

The 29-year-old midfielder has been in fine form since being restored to his familiar central holding position following the resumption of the Premier League after the coronavirus outbreak.

He had been deployed in a more attacking role under previous manager Maurizio Sarri, but despite the switch Lampard said Kante still has plenty to offer in an attacking sense.

“With N’Golo I wanted to have fluidity to us,” Lampard said. “He has capacity for high-intensity running. He has done it well and we can improve as a unit.”

Lampard also understood inevitable comparisons with former Blues and France midfielder, Claude Makele, who Lampard played alongside under Jose Mourinho.

“It’s a different position from Makelele, with eras it changes,” Lampard added. “It is new for N’Golo, but he is an incredible player. He can do more than sit in midfield.”

Recent media reports in Spain have claimed that Chelsea could be willing to sell Kante, who has been linked with Real Madrid.

But Lampard is having none of it.

“He will be huge for this club for years to come. He is doing a really good job,” Lampard said.
