Kenedy escapes punishment for challenge on Camarasa

Kenedy will not face punishment over his wild challenge on Cardiff’s Victor Camarasa while playing for Newcastle on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Brazilian appeared to kick out at the Spaniard as the pair tussled for possession during the 0-0 draw.

Referee Craig Pawson awarded a free-kick, but took no further action and it is understood that the match officials’ report has now been received by the Football Association and the incident will not be referred to a disciplinary panel.

Kenedy, who is on loan at St James’ Park from Chelsea, was a shadow of the player who lit up Tyneside during the second half of last season at the weekend, capping a poor individual display with an injury-time penalty miss after being handed the chance to win the match for his team.

He will sit out Sunday’s league clash with his parent club under the terms of his loan agreement, but will now be available to return for the Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest which follows two days later or the league trip to leaders Manchester City on September 1.
