Kenedy must continue to exploit his chance after returning to first-team action for Chelsea, according to manager Antonio Conte.

The Brazilian made a telling contribution in Chelsea’s thumping 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, scoring the opening goal and playing a part in the fifth.

It was the 21-year-old’s first appearance since being sent home from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of China after posting offensive social media comments.

Conte was impressed by Kenedy’s display against Forest, just the left-sided player’s ninth start in a Blues shirt.

“Kenedy played very well and gave a good answer,” Conte said. “Some players haven’t played a lot and it’s important to continue to work.

“I hope this type of game improved confidence and is is important to continue in this way.

“We started to work with Kenedy last January after his loan spell at Watford. He’s working very well and working a lot and is improving. He has to continue and when there is an opportunity he must exploit it.”

Conte also praised the other young players who featured against the Championship side, including Charly Musonda and Ethan Ampadu.

“Charly played very well and he is trying to work a lot to improve physically because the Premier League is very strong in terms of the physical aspect.,” Conte added. “He’s a talented player.

“Ethan is another youngster who has the potential to become a good player but he must continue to work with humility and improve. We must be pleased because we saw a lot of our young players in this game.”
