Keeper Cech signs new Chelsea contract

Chelsea’s Petr Cech has signed a new four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The goalkeeper, who recently turned 30, has made 369 appearances for the Blues since being signed in 2004.

Cech was a hero of their recent Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich, saving a penalty in normal time and during a dramatic shoot-out.

He has also won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two Carling Cups during his time at Chelsea.

One of the club’s so-called old guard, Cech was among several players who were rejuvenated under interim boss Roberto Di Matteo last season.

“It is clear to anyone who watched the climax to the season just completed that Petr continues to perform as well as any goalkeeper in the world,” said chief executive Ron Gourlay.

Cech told Chelsea’s website: “I am really happy to be part of this great club for another four years.

“I hope the next four years will be as successful as the last eight years I have been at the club.”
