Antonio Conte says N’Golo Kante is making good progress in his battle to be fit for Chelsea’s game against Manchester United on Sunday.

Chelsea have struggled without the midfielder, who has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury while playing for France last month.

Kante recently returned to training but was not ready to return to action in the midweek Champions League defeat by Roma.

But Blues boss Conte is hoping to include him against United.

Conte said: “He’s progressing well. We also have tomorrow and then I’ll take the best decision for him and for the team.

“For sure N’Golo is progressing well and I am very happy about this. You know very well we are talking about an important player.”

But Conte insisted there was no prospect of Kante being rushed back before he is ready.

“If I wanted to risk him I could have done this against Bournemouth or Roma,” the Italian said.

“It means if I decide to put him in the team he will be ready to do this.”
