Kalas trains with Boro as loan move nears

Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has joined up with the Middlesbrough squad on their pre-season trip to Marbella ahead of an anticipated loan move.

The Czech defender, 22, spent the second half of last season at the Riverside following an unsuccessful loan spell in Germany with Cologne.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka, who was Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Real Madrid, is keen to take Kalas back to the north-east.

A deal is close to being finalised and Chelsea have given Kalas permission to link up with the Boro squad for their training camp and a behind-closed-doors friendly with Leyton Orient.
