Jose has high hopes for Willian after goal

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hopeful Willian will go from strength to strength after his stunning goal in Sunday’s 3-1 win at Norwich.

The Brazilian has impressed in patches but struggled for consistency since his summer move to Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala.

But Mourinho believes Willian’s confidence will benefit a great deal from his contribution against the Canaries.

Willian scored a fine goal for Chelsea.

“It is good for the boy,” Mourinho said.

“It’s difficult to arrive somewhere when the team have started already.

“It is difficult to arrive coming from a league where normally a player loses a bit of sharpness, ambition and condition.

“Step by step he is getting there. It is important for the boy.”

Mourinho has also praised Chelsea’s medical team for their efforts in getting Eden Hazard fit to appear as a substitute at Carrow Road.

Hazard missed last week’s Champions League victory over Steaua Bucharest with an ankle problem.

“I am happy too with the medical department,” Mourinho added.

“They worked hard to try to recover Eden – not to play 90 minutes but to be available for me.

“I knew if I needed him, the kid would be in condition to try to give a push.”
