Chelsea confirm Joao Pedro’s new long-term contract
Joao Pedro’s contract has been extended to 2034, Chelsea have announced.
The 24-year-old Brazil international joined from Brighton last summer in a transfer worth an initial £55m plus £5m in add-ons.
Last season, he became the first Chelsea player since Diego Costa to score 20 goals in a single campaign, not including penalties.
He has netted eight goals in seven pre-season matches ahead of Monday’s Premier League opener against Fulham.
His form has led to him being handed the number nine shirt previously worn by Liam Delap, who looks likely to leave Stamford Bridge.
Joao Pedro said: “I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club.
“Everyone is very excited for this season. We know we can achieve a lot of things. We have a great team, we have a coach who wants to win and has won already.”
