Injured Chelsea trio will be assessed ahead of Sunderland game
Chelsea plan to assess John Terry, Frank Lampard and Daniel Sturridge on Thursday to see if they have a chance of returning against Sunderland this weekend.
Terry is recovering from a knee injury and Sturridge a hamstring problem, while Lampard is back in training following a calf complaint.
All three have been ruled out of Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash with Nordsjaelland but interim manager Rafael Benitez believes they are close to being fit.
“Sturridge maybe on Thursday will start training,” Benitez revealed.
“Frank has been training for two days but not full training. He’s fine but it’s still too early.
“JT has been training with the physios. It is too early for this game. Maybe we will have a conversation on Thursday and see what we will do.”
