Hudson-Odoi trains with Chelsea squad

Callum Hudson-Odoi trained with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Tuesday.

Hudson-Odoi stepping up his comeback from an Achilles tendon rupture is a huge boost for boss Frank Lampard, who hopes the teenager will be available for selection next month.

Having had to wait for his chance in the Premier League, Hudson-Odoi was enjoying a run of games in the Chelsea side and broke into the England team before suffering the injury.

Lampard said at a press conference last week that Hudson-Odoi was closing in on a return to action along with defender Reece James, who has been recovering from an ankle injury.

“The injury looks good, which is the great news,” Lampard said.

“There is going to be a period of conditioning work for him. He’s going to have to be fitter than he’s ever been – because I’m going to want him to run.

“It’s good news for us. It’s slightly gone amiss with the transfer ban and the obsession with young players, but we are missing six players from the squad, including Reece James – big players for the squad. As they are coming back it’s going to make us stronger.”

Meanwhile, Antonio Rudiger returned to action on Monday evening. The German played for Chelsea’s development side against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, where Michy Batshuayi scored twice.
