Hoddle in hospital after being taken seriously ill

Glenn Hoddle is in hospital after being taken seriously ill.

The Hayes-born former Chelsea manager, who also played for the Blues and later had a spell coaching at QPR, now works as a pundit.

He was taken ill at the studios of BT Sport, who consequently cancelled their usual Saturday scores and results show. It happened on Hoddle’s 61st birthday.

BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey revealed the news on Twitter.

Humphrey tweeted: “Our friend & colleague Glenn Hoddle was taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio this morning. For that reason there will be no @btsportscore – but we will be live as usual for the 5.30 ko at Leicester. Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love & strength.”

Hoddle is regarded as one of the most talented players to represent England in recent decades.

He made his name at Tottenham, where he returned as manager following a spell as England boss.

He became player-manager of Chelsea in 1993 and left to take charge of the national side two years later.

Hoddle is credited with playing a significant role in the transformation of Chelsea into one of Europe’s leading clubs.

He won 53 caps for England and as manager he took his country to the 1998 World Cup finals in France, qualifying after a memorable 0-0 draw away to Italy.

Hoddle spent time working at QPR during the 2014-15 season when Harry Redknapp was manager at Loftus Road.
