Hiddink still sees ‘vulnerabilities’ in Chelsea

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink
Guus Hiddink said there was still room for improvement after Chelsea beat Scunthorpe 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to take their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Blues are unbeaten in four matches under manager Hiddink but had some anxious moments against their League One opponents, particularly in the second half.

And the Dutchman said: “There were some vulnerabilities in the second half, it’s true. So in that way we have to improve.”

Nevertheless, Chelsea’s class was evident as they saw off the Iron with goals from Diego Costa and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Costa’s opener was his fourth goal in three matches and Loftus-Cheek’s tidy finish midway through the second half was the teenage midfielder’s first senior goal.

“We scored a beautiful goal and then we got a bit sloppy finishing it off,” said Hiddink.

“They were still in the game and there was a big threat from free-kicks and corners. As long as it was 1-0 the threat was actual for us.

“This was an important game for us. We are very determined to go on and get silverware at the end and that’s why you have to play these difficult games.”
