Hiddink praises players after Chelsea win

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink

Guus Hiddink praised Chelsea’s players after their 5-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup.

The Blues secured a place in the quarter-finals, where they will be away to Everton, with four second-half goals.

David Faupala – one of five players making their full debut in a vastly under-strength City side – equalised for the visitors after Diego Costa had opened the scoring.

But Chelsea responded with goals from Willian, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and substitute Bertrand Traore.

Boss Hiddink said: “Of course it is a boost for the confidence of the players and it was good to see that.

“It’s not always easy when (the opposition’s) youngsters are coming in, and it’s important not to get sloppy with the organisation, which we did when they made their equaliser.

“But we had a very good reaction to that and in the second half the team did the job they had to do.”

Coins were thrown from the crowd in the direction of City’s players as they celebrated their first-half goal.

Chelsea and Hiddink condemned the incident and the club say they will support any criminal action taken against those responsible.

“Those people must not come into stadiums,” said Hiddink.
