Hiddink admits Terry’s goal was offside

John Terry’s 98th-minute equaliser against Everton should not have stood, Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink admitted.

The Blues skipper appeared to be offside when he scored to make it 3-3, after Oscar had touched on Branislav Ivanovic’s header.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was angry that the flag stayed down and Hiddink conceded he had a point.

The Chelsea boss said: “He’s quite right. Why should I deny it? John was offside, although he made a beautiful goal.

“Sometimes they [refereeing decisions] go in our favour and sometimes they damage the result.

“It was in the last minute, even over the 97th minute, but they were celebrating in the corner their third goal for a long time.”

Hiddink also praised his side’s character after they came back from 2-0 down, with quickfire goals from Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, and they responded after falling 3-2 behind at the start of injury time.

He said: “I’m very happy with the spirit, the ambition and the attitude of the team. The first half very tactical. In the second half, the speed went up.

“Playing against Everton, a very modern team who know how to play very smart, 2-0 [down] was a tremendous setback.

“Then another setback at the end of the game, [for] 2-3, but in the last minute we got this goal for the draw.

“I’m not happy with the goals we conceded but I’m very happy with the attitude.”

Meanwhile, Costa was taken to hospital for scans after picking up an injury during the game.
