Eden Hazard’s father has reportedly said that the player has rejected a contract offer from Chelsea in order to leave the door open to a potential move to Real Madrid.

Hazard has repeatedly been linked with a transfer from the Blues to Real, as has his fellow Belgian Thibaut Courtois.

And his father has been quoted by Belgian publication Le Soir as saying that his son has declined to commit his long-term future to Chelsea.

Thierry Hazard apparently said: “What I can reveal about Eden is that he refused a contract extension. This was so that, if necessary, he could follow the interest of Real, whom he could see himself playing for.

“As of right now, there is no contact from Real. Eden is only one of the parties involved in his future.”

Hazard, 26, is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2020.
