Speculation over Rudiger’s future and Chelsea expected to announce Mendy deal

Stories involving Chelsea in Monday’s newspapers…

There is inevitable speculation over Antonio Rudiger’s future after he was left out of the Chelsea squad for Sunday’s game against Liverpool.

Fikayo Tomori was chosen ahead of Rudiger for a place on the bench – and ended up coming on after Andreas Christensen was sent off.

The Daily Mail say Rudiger’s omission means there are doubts over his future at Chelsea, who recently signed veteran centre-back Thiago Silva.

Speaking after the game, Blues boss Frank Lampard said: “Now we have five centre-halves at the club. I can’t pick a squad that has three of them on the bench.

“So that’s the way it is. I have to pick the squad by training, situations and opponents and that was the selection.

“He did really well, Tomori, I have to say.

“He hasn’t played for a while and is striving for fitness. I was delighted with him.

“I hope he feels the trust. I’ve got confidence in him.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Star say Chelsea will confirm the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes.

The Star also reports that Chelsea do not have a buy-back option on Tariq Lamptey, who has impressed since leaving the Blues for Brighton.

And the Mail reports that Chelsea have applied for planning permission to install seven pole-mounted CCTV cameras at their Cobham training ground.
